Frequently asked questions
is the tinted lip shield vegan and cruelty-free?
yes!
Will the tinted lip shield color work for my skin tone?
We used a combination of zinc oxide and homosalate in the tinted lip shield to create a sheer formula that will work for a variety of skin tones and lip colors. We also tested many different formula submissions on a variety of skin tones to select the perfect sheer formula with a universal tint.
Does the tinted lip shield taste like sunscreen?
The tinted lip shield has a mild mango flavor and scent.
Is it safe to have a chemical sunscreen filter in a lip product that could be ingested?
The tinted lip shield is intended to stay on your lips in order to protect them from the sun, but there is a possibility that a small amount may be ingested. Unfortunately authorities have noted that the studies around homosalate are inconclusive, with a common critique being it doesn’t demonstrate real life usage. There is solid research that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US and the chosen sunscreen actives are proven to protect skin from UV rays, the primary cause of melanoma. That being said, we are continuing to monitor research that is being done on these filters in both the U.S. and EU. Everyone has different needs and we encourage customers to choose the lip sunscreen that works best for them!
Why did you choose to use homosalate over the other chemical filters?
We used a combination of zinc oxide and homosalate in the tinted lip shield so it would work for a variety of skin tones and lip colors, maximizing the pros, and minimizing the cons of each sun filter. One con of chemical sunscreen filters is that they are generally less tolerated by sensitive skin types, but homosalate is a better tolerated chemical filter.
I live in Maui, where I need a prescription for non-mineral SPFs, can I buy this online?
Due to Maui Bill 135, which effectively limits use and sale of SPF products that are non-mineral based without a prescription, the tinted lip shield cannot be sold there.
